It’s 2025. Why a fashion blog?
Because I don’t care if no one reads it. I need a distraction, something to take my mind off of life. And I want to create something of my own.
I moved to Maryland about a year ago and it hasn’t gone as imagined. My first job here didn’t work out so I quit without a prospect lined up. The next job I was interested in and a top candidate for (their words, not mine) was rescinded because of the mess with the federal government. I took a temporary job with lower pay and I can’t wait for it to end. The problem is I don’t know what’s next. The economy is tightening up and I’m trying to pivot into something a little different. Normally, I feel confident in betting on myself. Presently, I’m not anxious, but I’m also not confident. Work is a big part of my life and I think about it a lot. Rather than obsessing over my current state of affairs, I’d like to divert that energy into something meaningful to me.
I don’t like taking photographs and I don’t enjoy attention. Weird, right? I think that’s why the blog is a better space for me than social media. I like that there is no built in audience. You will actually have to search for me. But also it outside of my comfort zone. I need to stretch.
Fashion is fun, but it’s also frivolous. I’m an earnest person. I don’t engage in frivolity often. But that’s what I need at the moment and I’m excited about it.
About the cover photo: This is a picture of my favorite piece from the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibit at The Met in New York. I love the deconstruction of the traditional officer’s coat. But what I love most is the messaging of it. You may be able to control who’s at the top, but you don’t control me. It reclaims authority on its own terms, Black terms.
